Subject: Wonderful holiday in Sikkim

Good morning Anil
Frans and I had a wonderful holiday in Sikkim. All the arrangments worked perfectly. Thank you.
We especially enjoyed our visit to North Sikkim, where the fact it was actually COLD made it all the more of an adventure. We wore three layers of clothes, and were very grateful for the hot water bottles the hotel put in to our bed while we had dinner. In fact our 2 night stay at the Yarlam Hotel Lachung, although the hotel is quite plain, was made very comfortable by the charming staff, (who sent a very welcome tray of tea to the room on arrival), interesting library and excellent food.
The sheer luxury of the Mayfair Resort in Gangtok is of course beyond compare.
Please convey our thanks also to Mr Bannerjee in Kolkata who was very helpful indeed. We decided on our first day we would do some local sightseeing after all and were very glad we did; he organised a car for us at very short notice and an excellent guide.
Our drivers everywhere were wonderful, as always.
Our Ghorka guide Dipesh was a delightful companion for the 2 weeks so congratulations are also due to him and to the agency in Darjeeling who sent him to us. Some of the best parts of our trip were Dipesh's own ideas and we were always happy to agree. He included a visit to Sangachoeling monastery at Pelling, as well as Pemayangtse; as I would not manage the uphill climb the driver was willing to take us up by car, which was a miracle of driving skill. On our way back from Lachung to Gangtok he took us to Labrang and Phodong monasteries, which were also not on our itinerary. All three additional monasteries were really unmissable and we are so glad to have seen them. Then in Kalimpong he took us on a walking tour of the market, which was delightful. And his choices of local teashops and roadside restaurants for breaks en route were always very good and part of the adventure for us. That included butter tea near Tsomgo Lake - very good too.
When you suggested Gujurat for our next visit you must have been reading my mind; a return to Rajasthan with an extension to Gujurat is exactly what we were thinking of. It's time I saw a step well. Unfortunately the long tour on your website will never be possible for us (until I retire); 2 weeks is the most I can be away from my desk. We expect our return to India will be November 2012 so it is too early to begin planning in detail, but as well as a short tour in Gujurat my husband thinks he would enjoy a trip into the Thar desert from Jaisalmer, and if it happened that we could return briefly to the lovely hotel at Deogargh that would be very fine. Other than that, we have already seen much of Rajasthan and the Golden Triangle so we would like our next tour to be all new. As you understand, we have a liking for being slighly off the beaten track. We would be happy to make use of internal flights if that would make our travel more efficient, and we could fly from the UK into Delhi or maybe Mumbai if that would be better.
Once again, thank you to everyone who was involved in our amazing trip to Sikkim. It was the holiday of a lifetime.
With all good wishes
Trisha King

Dear Anil,
The organization of the trip was excellent. The hotel selection was very good; generally a very good location of the hotels with respect to areas of interest. ISTA in Bangalore was certainly the best quality hotel and the Windermere Estate just being fabulous. The staff at the Arches in Kochi was incredibly nice and friendly and made the stay really memorable. The Kerala Backwaters were another highlight. The wildlife view in Periyar is basically a waste of time. You will see some birds, but that's it.I am very pleased with your services and I also recommended your company to my friend Susie, Vice President of the American International Vacations Corp. in California. Hopefully some business will come out of this for you.
The only negative of the trip: I understand that contributions from your preferred companies/vendors/stores are important for the guides and for you. But the constant push is very annoying. I have been to India and many other countries before and I came to India to show my wife the sights and the beauty of your country, not to buy goods from generally overprized stores.
If you find a balance between your excellent service as a tour organizer and the shopping issues during the trip, you will truly have a winning combination.
Best regards
Marcel Olbrecht

Dear Anil
My husband and I would like to thank you sincerely for all you did to help us to have a truly memorable holiday in your country. The itinerary was perfect and our second week in Goa rounded off a wonderful time in India.
The guides you provided in Delhi and Jaipur were knowledgeable and gave us good insights into their cities but we must give a very special mention and a big 'Thank You' to 'G2' in Agra. He was an outstanding guide, who brought the story of the Taj Mahal to life and made our visit there truly magical. His English is excellent and he gave us an open insight into everyday life in India.
All the drivers were competent and careful drivers although the cars varied in comfort. We had expected the quality of car that took us from the Park Hotel to Delhi airport on 13th February 2011. The car that picked us up initially did not give us promising expectations of the trip to come. Of course we then had the unfortunate experience on the road from Delhi to Agra. It was very frightening to be stranded for two hours at the side of this main highway for something that should have been avoidable in a well serviced vehicle. From Agra we were fortunate to be driven by Sushil - a wonderful young man with excellent driving skills, personality and knowledge. We were thrilled to see him when he picked us up at Delhi airport on 12th February 2011.
All the hotels, with the exception of the Park Hotel were of very high standard. Despite the central location of this hotel we did not feel that the accomodation warranted 5*s - dirty carpets alone were off-putting. - although the food was very good.
Please do pass on our very sincere thanks to Sushil and G2 in particular and be assured that we will be recommending your company to other people.
Finally, thanks to you, Anil, for the efficient and friendly way in which you dealt with us prior to our holiday. We always fely confident that our trip would run smoothly.
Warm Regards
Angela & Merv Anwyl

Dear Anil,
It was good to hear from you. Thanks for asking about Eileen. She is now back in Arizona after spending almost three weeks in the snow back East. Progress is good and pain is going away. She should be like new in a month or two!
Some trip thoughts:
Hotels:
GRT Grand Very Nice
Tea Bungalow Very Nice
Houseboat-Quality Fair. Air Conditioning Problem. It go very hot, ask to turn on AC in bedroom and was told it would not be turned on until 9:00PM. Finally they turned in on, but because it was turned on early, they shut it off at 2:00AM!! I did not know I was on an AC budget. Crew was nice, but didn"t understand any English.
Windermere Estate-Excellent. Included a free tour of the plantation, tea time very nice. Dinner fair. Tea fields amazing. National Park fair.
Elephant Court. Very nice. Dinner fair. Spice village better. Dinner excellent at Spice Village. Both hotels had female dancers that were excellent.
Men's dance show excellent. Also, went to the Martial Arts show which was very good. Should add this!
Heritage Madurai Excellent
Hotel Sangam Trichy Worst hotel I every stayed in. What a dump. Hotel falling apart. Dinner and breakfast terrible.
Hotel Sangam Tanjore. The only thing that made this hotel fair, was that it was better than Sangam Trichy. Any thing is better than TrichyHotel!
Maison Perumal. Good, Dinner good. Staff Excellent. Radison Temple Bay, Mahabalipuram. Excellent. If I could suggest that in Mahabalipuram, I found a street by mistake that had about 15 seafood restaurants and many many gift shops. I had dinner along the street twice and bought a number of gifts. Maybe, you should point this street out. I found it by mistake.
The two drivers were excellent. They went out of their way to show me the unusual and gave me great photo opportunities. ie. textile weaving, brick making, ox blacksmith. rope making, silk cleaning. duck farming, wholesale flower market, crock viewing, salt mining, rice growing, meeting a family that grew their own spices, ect. . If you can get me the email address for my driver the last 10 days I would appreciate it (want to send him some pictures). He came from Chennai. Their English skills were fair. They understood me. They would do and take me anywhere I wanted to go. By the way, you should put the Gandhi museum on the program.
Some of the guides were good , some were fair. The guide in Kochi got me invited to a Muslim wedding, also invited into a typical home! Arrived at the fishing docks just as the boats were coming in. A few of the guides, I really could not understand!
The Temples were amazing and I consider myself fortunate to be able to see them during festival time. Three days in a row was a little too much. I got "Templed Out" after the second day. Of course staying at the Sangram Trichy did not put me in the best of moods!
The massages were excellent. The guide suggested a great place in Periyar and I picked one in Mahabalipurim (along that great street). The guide also had a motorbike waiting at the gate of the National Park so I could be first in line to buy the boat tickets.
The last day, I should of stayed at the Radison Temple Bay later (I left at 2:30) They did not care and would of let me stay as late as I wanted. Anything, I did that day could of been done later.
All in all, I loved the trip. Thanks for helping me put it together. Of course, if you want to use me as a reference, by all means do.
All the best to you and your family,
Mitch

Hello Anil,
Just a quick note for now to tell you that we LOVED our trip to India...you planned everything so impeccably and your services were far beyond what had had hoped for. We especially liked our very professional and friendly driver, Arun! he was a big part of why we enjoyed our trip so much. He made us feel safe while driving even though the Indian roads can be quite hectic and busy....he was punctual and neatly dressed at all times and never without a smile. He also had a great knowledge of the cities where we visited and had some very good suggestions for us which our guides would neglect to share with us.
His English is quite good and we never had trouble understanding him..nor did he have any trouble understanding us.
He is a wonderful asset to your your company!
More to follow on particular experiences hotels and guides!

Hi Anil
I cannot say enough about the great trip you organized.Everything was so well planned and went off like clock work. All the guides and drivers were wonderful and we had no complaints about anything. This trip so much surpassed my expectations and our two nights at the Lake Palace in the President's Suite will be with me for my lifetime.
I was so overcome by the beauty of the place and the service that when the rose petals fell from the ceiling on our arrival I began crying. We attended four Indian weddings and were actually invited so you can imagine how happy I was to photograph these events. All our hotels other than the two Gateways were magnificent and I think these two hotels catered to large tours and were a bit overwhelmed. Everyday was an adventure and no two days the same.
I cannot thank you enough and we all loved India and will return. Feel free to use me as a reference as I would be happy to recommend you to any future customers and will do so to any of my fellow photography friends who will be wanting to do this same trip when they see my work. I will keep in touch and plan to do a book of this trip--will send you a copy when finished.

Subject: Holiday to india and Nepal
Date: Sat, 20 Nov 2010 11:07:56 -0000
From: Sue Wood
To: <anil@indovisiontours.com>
Dear Anil
Many thanks for organising our holiday to India and Nepal . The travel arrangements went very smoothly, there was always a driver/agent to meet us on arrival in airports and guides and drivers were always prompt on tour days. All the guides we had were very enthusiastic and eager to show us their cities highlights. Flights were good. Here are a few comments we would like to make regarding the holiday.
Delhi – Radisson Marina Hotel : we wondered what we were coming to as the outside is very unprepossessing with unopened shops, no visible sign of an hotel and a tiny car park with holes in the road and very little space. Our stay was satisfactory and any problems sorted quickly, but the water stains on the ceilings and walls show they have had some problems. Driver and guide were excellent.
Udaipur – Fateh Garh Hotel: fantastic hotel with beautiful views, again any problems were sorted quickly. We would definitely recommend anyone to stay at this hotel as long as they can cope with the stairs. Because it is built around a hilltop everywhere you went you had to climb steps and it is not suitable if you have any clients who are not very mobile. Driver and guide were excellent.
Jaipur – Fern Hotel: lovely new hotel and in a few years it will be even better when all the building work around it is finished. Driver and guide were very good and we kept this driver to take us to Agra . He was an excellent driver and we had to admire his road skills on the long drive. We know this is nothing to do with you but the hawkers and sellers were persistent and spoilt the elephant ride up to the Red Fort as they followed us up.
Agra – Clarks Shiraz Hotel: very good hotel. We picked up the guide en route to here and he was a brilliant photographer as well as superb guide.
Here we met the agent regarding the train journey and he assured us that although 3 people were in one carriage (H1A) and one of us was in another carriage (H1C) there were no problems and we would all be together in our own compartment.
Train to Varanasi – We were delivered to the station nearly an hour earlier than the train was supposed to depart, but as the train was late we ended up standing on the platform for over one and a half hours. Another agent met us at this station and said he would sort out the problems on the train. He shot on the train when it arrived and got some people in the carriage to move. When we got into the compartment we thought was ours, there was already an Indian family of four in it. They all shuffled to one side and the four of us sat squashed up on the other side. We sat like this for well over an hour until the guard came and the other family was moved out. This family was going to Calcutta so were staying on the train after we had left it. The parting shot from the adult son of this family was “We are now moving to your compartment”. We thought we were sitting in the compartment allocated to us so were a bit confused as to what had happened. We assumed that when we asked you to book train tickets last February that four tickets would be purchased together.
Varanasi – Hotel Hindustan International: We would not recommend you send clients there if they, like us, are expecting a 4* hotel. Reception and housekeeping staff were good but the dining room staff were very poor. Tables were not reset for the next diners, cutlery was missing and we ended up fetching cutlery, napkins and crockery from other tables ourselves. Service was poor with waiters leaning across the table to serve a meal rather than walking round to serve that person and coughing over us and the table. There was building work going on inside the hotel and a thick layer of dust was evident on tables, seating and handrails throughout the hotel. Mr & Mrs Wood had to send for 3 electric kettles before we could get one that worked and then the only sockets that worked were on the floor. On departure a list of problems in the room that needed fixing was left with reception. We were told on the journey to the airport that it was only a 3* hotel, but comparing it with all the other hotels we stayed in, we would have said it was only a 2* hotel. We thought we had paid for 4* hotels throughout the holiday. The guide we had here, although he was enthusiastic and showed us lots of things had poorer English than the driver. We occasionally had trouble making ourselves understood and understanding his explanations. We sometimes learned more from the driver than we did from the guide.
The Nepal hotels were good, Pokhara especially and we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Nepal . Chitwan itself was beautiful, although the accommodation is basic but as we have stayed in jungle lodges before we knew what to expect. However, to be told that we had to make our own arrangements to get there when I had paid for transport made my blood pressure rise. Fortunately Tensing, the Pokhara guide, sorted it out for me, unfortunately the driver said he had never been to Temple Tiger before and got lost. He tried to take us to another lodge and I had to get out my map to show him where to go. He then rang someone to get directions. We got there eventually.
Overall we had a very good holiday and saw some amazing sights. India is a country to be experienced and we are glad we experienced it. We would recommend your company to anyone else who wants to visit India .
Kind regards
Mr & Mrs Wood and Mr & Mrs Brown

Hola Anil

Dear Anil
Many thanks for your services on our recent trip to India. Apart from the mess up at Delhi station everything worked well and we shall be happy to contact you when we next come back your way and recommend you to any friends.
A quick, and hopefully, helpful thought....a little greater detail about times for pick ups and exactly where to meet (for example, I may have saved 15mins or so at Delhi station in looking for the right exit and hence place where your driver was waiting) in the material you gave us would have been useful.
Also, the Vista hotel was good in some respects but oh so lonely. We were the only guests for 2 nights (so got lots of attention), and stuck out the way of everything. You do wonder why!

Hi Anil
Just to say thank you again for organizing our recent trip. Everything seemed to fall into place concerning meeting the various drivers, guides, agents etc.
Namdan was a great driver. His cautious driving style meant we always arrived safely and on time. He always had a smile on his face and was always keen to ensure that we were okay and happy. Just a pity we did not have enough Hindi skills to enable us to converse more with him. However, when necessary, we always seemed to manage to understand each other.
I have attached to this e-mail comments on the various hotels and guides which might assist you in providing an excellent service for your potential clients in the future.
I am sorry for the number of e-mails that we had before the trip but as you are aware I like to cross all the t's and dot every i. Any apprehensions I had about the trip were soon put aside. We had a really great holiday thanks to your hard work. Many of our friends have already contacted us asking how our trip went so I hope that you may receive some additional bookings.

Good afternoon Anil
Firstly can I say the holiday in India was great! All your arrangements went like clockwork. We were met, picked up and dropped off just as planned and all the agencies along the route were very competent and professional.
Some detailed points:
You get what you pay for when it comes to hotels. We thought the Windermere Estate was outstanding, rooms, meals and service. The InterC Lalit at Mumbai was also v comfortable. The Krishna Palace at Hospet was very good-an oasis of civilisation in a pretty grim town! The Kerala trip was outstanding and we can’t fault the Lakes and Lagoons people.
We were disappointed initially to find that we were not in the centre of Mysore but the Brindavan Gardens were astonishing and the close access to the Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan was a must-see.
Kings Cliff was good, but the room we had (Verona) was next to the kitchens and we couldn’t open the curtains because the windows fronted onto a path and sheer cliff. I’d advise you to put clients in one of the rooms which face south over the lawns.
Bernard Bungalow was adequate but we felt the owner (Coral Bernard) was too keen on making money rather than delivering service. Breakfast was watermelon and toast-that’s it, take it or leave it!
The drivers were good-with one exception. The chap from Bangalore to Coonor was reckless and we nearly had an accident. We had to tell him to slow down. We’re used to Indian driving but he was constantly overtaking on blind bends and we could easily have had a smash.
The overall holiday was wonderful and we thank you for your efforts on our behalf.
Best wishes
